“Brown was not shot for being black. Brown was shot for being a thief and a thug. Give the officer a medal. Justice with knobs on.”
Katie Hopkins, 2014
“Multiple black eye witnesses…sounds painful. Surely the maximum is two?”
Katie Hopkins, 2014
With everything that has come into light (again) since the execution of Mike Brown, I’ve felt the urge to write…something…but the words to articulate my mind and soul have been hard to find. How do I express my thoughts without sounding like ‘everybody else’?
We all think these incidences of racial hatred are wrong. They leave pharmaceutically bitter tastes in our mouths, burn our stomachs and chill our skins…right? Right? RIGHT?!
That’s what makes all of this a harder pill to swallow. Pseudo-medieval-made-modern-mystical-monstrous-media-mongrels, clinging to the spotlight in the hope that by saying something, anything, even things that perpetuate the problems, they’ll remain materialistically comfortable, irrespective of the damage they cause and the air time they steal, which could be used for more well-rounded, grounded talks, debates and news updates, which would hopefully play a part in leading us to justice, peace, understanding, tolerance, and dare I say it…higher consciousness.
Of course, I can’t give Hopkins all the credit for making my skin crawl. She is not the only one who has said and done some shocking things since Brown’s ILLEGAL and UNFAIR departure from this world. You only have to turn on FOX News, read my recent blog regarding the Barbican’s Animal Zoo antics, spend time with an ignorant so n’ so, so keen to impress post-racialism on you in the hope that you can’t see their true colours, read comments in support of Darren Wilson (such as the one above) and/or spend an hour with an avid UKIP fan for the evidence.
Of course, my title is a little strong (thought it might get you reading) but, when I say ‘Katie Hopkins Must Die’, I am coming from a figurative, metaphorical place. She exists (questionably) as a human, but also as an idea and a concept brought about to avert our eyes from the small print politicians and media conglomerates like The Sun, are keen to keep from us – all for the benefit of their own profit-making agendas.
I may sound conspiratorial to some, but think of this: When you’re busy focusing your energy on Katie Hopkins, or even another media distraction like (insert guilty pleasure here), do you have time to question parliament (namely the reds, blues and increasingly the yellows) plans for ridding the UK of social housing, privatising the NHS, ensuring further and higher education remain exclusively for the rich or finding ways to maintain their tax loop holes whilst we foot the bill?
Please read my disclaimer at the end if you were seriously considering the notion. You must not literally kill Katie Hopkins… but you can sign this petition for her arrest (which although was inspired by a xenophobic insult she spat at the Scottish nation, is still worth getting involved in if it means we get a break…and the truth).
I’ll close with a comment I sent to a friend after he shared the poor tasted Ferguson comment Katie Hopkins tweeted (I should mention that his status was one of condemnation, not of support for Hopkins). I said: “My advice: Don’t pay attention to this woman(ish). She is a failed TV star who spent her youth trying to marry money, and now the looks have faded, she’s running out of options re ways to maintain her superficial and soulless lifestyle. Consequently, she’s taken a job writing (poorly) for The Sun (how fitting) and earns her keep by making thoughtless and controversial statements for no other reason than for ‘the sake of it’. There are some people who would rather be remembered for all the wrong things, than for nothing. Taking the bate is paying her way. Do not indulge her. Nothing her. She’ll soon be forgotten.”
And on that note, I am keen to exercise my own theory, and you’ll be pleased to know that this is the last you’ll hear of Katie Hopkins (at least from me).
I should also add that since writing this blog, I’ve learned that at times like these, sounding like everybody else is a necessity – evidencing the fact that for our world to progress, we have to be singing from the same song sheet. Treating each other as equals.
Perhaps if we can rid the world of these sloppy, and also carefully placed distractions, we can further work towards resolve…and justice.
RIP to all the fallen…because all of them…are all of us.
A little disclaimer: I do not know Katie Hopkins personally. Behind closed doors, she could be an absolute sweetheart (I giggle as I type). I am basing my opinions purely on what she has volunteered to give us through the media. I am not encouraging anybody to go and literally kill Katie Hopkins. We’ve all got to die some time, so I’d advise you to avoid prison, the blood on your hands, the guilt on your consciousness and the risk to your own life…just know that we’re all not long for this world…even the devil and his demons have limited time!
Until I get the urge to blog again…
